Finding a cure for motor neuron disease - one step at a time

The Magnificent Mile Race was first run in November 2006. It is the inspiration of Sarah Witt who has Primary Lateral Sclerosis, a motor neuron disease related to ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease; and Scott and Amy Corsmeier, siblings who have Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia, a hereditary motor neuron disease.

Sarah was an avid runner and marathoner until her illness began in 2004. Now, she is confined to a wheelchair and unable to run. Scott and Amy were diagnosed when they were young children.

Since its inception, the race has raised more than $300,000 from sponsors and individual donors for research into upper motor neuron disorders. In addition, nearly 5,000 participants and hundreds more spectators have taken part in this event.
